Social entrepreneur, writer and gender activist is the director and co-founder of three NGOs: Women Work & Health Initiative, The Society for Working Life and Equal World Equal Spaces. Her focus is research and grassroot work in the field of Gender & Development. Amita is co-founder of the Sweden India Gender Network (SIGN); and has established two Community Education & Development Centres for the underprivileged in the slum areas of New Delhi. Amita was on the Advisory Board IGNOU (2011) for developing the post graduate & M. Phil course of Gender & Development of the School of Gender and Development Studies (SOGDS) of Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU) India.
